Taking a first step, waving “bye-bye,” and pointing to something interesting are all developmental milestones, or things most children can do by a certain age. As a parent, you already have what it takes to help your child learn and grow. Easterseals can give you the tools you need to track your child’s progress, celebrate their development and act early if you have a concern.

Here are things you can do:

Use our online screening tools.

Our free questionnaires are an easy way to measure and keep track of your child’s development and alert you to any concerns. You will be asked about things your child can and cannot do. It takes about 10 minutes to complete and can be repeated as your child grows.

Complete the ASQ-3 to look at communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving and personal social skills.

Complete the ASQ-SE2 for a more in depth look at a child’s social and emotional skills.

Trust your instincts.

You know your child best. If you are concerned about your child’s development, don’t wait. Acting early can make a real difference. Talk with your child’s doctor about your concerns. Ask the doctor for a referral to a specialist who can do a more in-depth evaluation of your child.

You can also request a free evaluation to find out if your child qualifies for intervention services. Call the CONNECT helpline at 1-800-692-7288 to be connected to your county Early Intervention program.

You have a choice. Request Easterseals to provide services when you speak to your county Early Intervention program about services for your child. Together we can change your child's developmental path and empower you to better meet his/her needs.
