Frequently asked questions
How often will my child receive therapy?
The frequency of therapy depends upon your child’s needs and goals. Most children begin by attending therapy between 1 and 3 times per week with the frequency of services gradually decreasing to every other week, monthly, every 3 months or on as needed basis.
For how long will my child receive therapy?
Initially, your child will receive therapy for 12 weeks and then be re-assessed. All children are re-assessed every 12 weeks. At that time, one of the following will occur depending on your child’s progress.
Your child has met his/her goals. Therapy may no longer be necessary or your child may be enrolled in a monitoring program where his/her status is monitored every one to three months.
Your child has not met his/her goals, but is making progress. Services will continue. The frequency and duration will be determined based on your child’s needs.
Your child has not made progress towards his/her goals. A new approach will be attempted, such as a change in frequency or a different treatment technique. Services will continue for another 12 weeks.
If your child does not make progress after a change in our approach, s/he will be enrolled in a monitoring program, returning for a check-up every one to three months.

How can I help my child succeed in therapy?
Parents and caregivers play the most important role in helping children succeed in therapy and reach their goals. You can help by:
- Attending all regularly scheduled sessions.
- Arriving on time so that your child gets the benefit of the full session for which they are scheduled.
- Carrying through with any home exercises or activities suggested by your therapist.
- Talking with your child’s therapists about your concerns, hopes and dreams for your child.
Should I observe therapy or stay in the waiting room?
This varies from one child to another. On one hand, it is important that you understand what is being worked on in therapy, but some children behave better when a parent is not watching. You and your therapist will work together to decide what is most appropriate for your child.
