The residential Camp Nurse is responsible for the medical needs, safety and well-being of all campers and camp staff, attending to all medication distribution, illnesses and injuries.
Responsibilities:
Management of illness and injury; administer Basic First Aid to campers and staff as needed.
Making the appropriate determination of when a situation will require a higher level of care and coordinate appropriate action with the Camp Director.
Medication administration along with associated paperwork.
Organize camper medication and create a system to dispense the medication at various times of day.
Maintain secure, compliant storage of all camper/staff medications, ensuring they are kept in original containers, locked away, and managed according to ACA standards.
Keep records regarding administration of medication, prescribed treatments, and other health and medical needs. Follow state and ACA standards in maintaining such records.
Must be on-site for camp check-in each Sunday afternoon to process medications brought to camp, verify medication accuracy, and verify that all documentation is complete.
Communicate with parents/guardians at camper Check-in to obtain as much health information as possible about the campers.
Must be on-site for camp check-out each Friday afternoon to ensure all appropriate medications are returned to the parent/guardian with signatures when appropriate.
Must be available during all camp sessions to attend all camp activities.
Assist campers to participate fully in the camp program.
Review each assigned camper application prior to the start of camp and fully complete the Camper Observation Form at the end of each session.
Ensure the Camp Director is aware of all matters related to camper safety and well-being.
Communicate positively and effectively with campers, other staff, and families.
Adhere to the agency’s health and safety policies, procedures and HIPAA regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
Essential Functions:
Ability to lift up to fifty pounds and/or assist with the transfer of campers.
Ability to relate well to children and adults, fellow staff, volunteers, PEEC staff, care providers, and parents of campers.
Commitment to maintaining high professional standards/ethics in the workplace.
Qualifications:
Must be a registered nurse with a license as required by Pennsylvania state law.
CPR and First Aid certification.
Must demonstrate the ability to work with teens and adults with varied developmental levels and special needs.
Must be able to stay overnight in the camp cabins for training week and while the camp is in session.
