Residential camp counselors assist the Camp Director in planning and implementing an effective summer camp program ensuring a quality camp experience for every camper.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing appropriate care to campers including; toileting, bathing, showering, brushing teeth, hair care, dressing, feeding, lifting, transferring, and any other Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s).
Assist campers in order for them to participate fully in the camp program.
Promote camper independence by providing care, support and choice options.
Responsible for the health and safety conditions in their assigned cabins. Keep the cabin clean, sanitary, replace supplies when needed and promptly report repairs to the maintenance staff.
Review each assigned camper application prior to the start of camp and fully complete the Camper Observation Form at the end of each session.
Communicate with parents/guardians at camper check-in to obtain as much information as possible about the campers.
Ensure the Camp Director is made aware of all matters relating to camper safety and well-being.
Communicate positively and effectively with campers, other staff, and families.
Complete all documentation as requested by the Camp Director including but not limited to the Daily Direct Service form for each camper.
Adhere to the agency’s health and safety policies, procedures and HIPAA regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
Essential Functions:
Ability to lift up to fifty pounds and/or assist with the transfer of campers.
Ability to relate well to children and adults, fellow staff, volunteers, PEEC staff, care providers and parents of campers.
Commitment to maintaining high professional standards/ethics in the workplace.
Qualifications:
Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
Must demonstrate the ability to work with teens and adults with varied developmental levels and special needs.
Must demonstrate the ability to lead activities and act as a role model for campers and fellow staff.
Must be able to stay overnight in the camp cabins for training week and while the camp is in session.
High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
